Social Media Club of Cache Valley announces its first "Tweet Up"!!!

The board members of the Social Media Club of Cache Valley (SMCCV), CacheValleyDaily.com and Bear River Health Department are pleased to announce their first Tweet Up on Thursday, January 14th, 2010, at 6:30pm at Cafe Sabor in Logan.

And now for a few FAQ's:

What is Social Media and what is the Social Media Club of Cache Valley?

To quote Wikipedia, "Social media is media designed to be disseminated through social interaction, created using highly accessible and scalable publishing techniques."

Basically, it is a way to quickly exchange information on small to large scales using social interaction. Like Facebook or Twitter. You can use it as much or as little as you want, you can use it for pleasure and personal use or to promote and expand your business/brand...it can be what YOU want it to be. The possibilities for its uses are vast.

The Social Media Club of Cache Valley is a local chapter of Social Media Club, a world wide organization to promote use and understanding of social media. It has 4 core goals in its mission statement:

1. Expand Media Literacy

2. Share Lessons Learned Among Practitioners

3. Encourage Adoption of Industry Standards

4. Promote Ethical Practices Through Discussion and Action.

SMCCV is a place to gather locals at all levels of interest and experience in social media together to learn new ideas, network and have fun. We have monthly meetings that consist of panels, guest speakers, Q & A's and networking/conversation time. These are held at Borders the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 6:30-8:30pm.

We have quarterly "Tweet Up's" at Cafe Sabor.

What is a "Tweet Up"?

Simple! A Tweet Up is where a bunch of people (that would be you) that use social media (like Twitter or Facebook) or who are curious and want to know more about social media, all get together at a restaurant to network, eat, laugh, get to know people with similar interests in their area and take away some great swag!

For this tweet up we will have complementary Pepsi products provided for everyone by Cafe Sabor, swag bags and will also be giving away some great door prizes like gift certificates to Borders and Best Buy and one lucky attendee will go home with the newest model of the ipod shuffle.

Some people may feel a little intimidated about coming to our events or our meetings but there is no reason to. We have people of all walks of life, professions, experience and needs that come to our events, some with little to NO internet experience and we would love to have you. There are NO requirements to come to the tweet up or to belong to SMCCV! All you need is an interest in social media.
